The New Black Film Collective (TNBFC) are currently working on a project called Sickle Cell Warriors
Funded by BBC Children In Need's 'We Move Fund'
TNBFC will recruit a cohort of twenty young people with Sickle Cell Disease or Sickle Cell Trait to raise awareness and create social impact to fight against health inequalities regarding this condition. The twenty young people will be divided into groups to work on different aspects of the project, each lead by an expert facilitator in their field. Fields will include:
Research
Working with a clinician or researcher they will create an original piece of research into an aspect of Sickle Cell which most interests them and is in need of discovery or innovation.
Reporting
Working with an investigative reporter or documentarian, they will learn interview techniques and how to shoot a short film or document their journey, leading to the creation of content on the topic of Sickle Cell.
Activism
Working with an experienced activist or lobbyist to advocate and petition around Sickle Cell to drive policy change and deep social impact.
Marketing
Working with a marketing expert or publicist they will learn how to devise, build and launch a social media campaign to educate people about Sickle Cell and raise public awareness online of the condition.
